The Post office, as of July 2024, have introduced a third postage rate for inland first and second class parcels/large letters that is called With Tracking.
I haven’t changed my checkout/postage set-up, the options remains the same, either Standard or Signed For. I’m going to leave it that way for the time being. Setting up the store’s checkout system with the correct postage rates is a sodding nightmare (anyone who has tried selling on Discogs will know what I mean). Royal Mail don’t help matters by constantly changing their services and price rates.
And so, as a general guideline, for the time being, I will send all orders with a value of £20 or more via the new With Tracking postage rate, and at no extra charge to yourselves.
Does it make a difference to you? No, not really. From what I can gather so far, this new Tracking rate offers-up a bit more information on a parcel’s journey from me to you, (that’s if you can be arsed to type in the number on the Royal Mail’s online tracking site, they don’t make it easy). And it offers a better compensation rate for missing /damaged parcels – up to £150, compared to the Standard rate of around £20.
You don’t have to do anything different at checkout. But, on the rare off-chance that something goes wrong with your parcel – delay, damage, whatever – you now have better recall/back-up. This is all worth knowing, because you might now hesitate before paying extra for the Signed For option – which is still a worthwhile service if your local postal delivery service is a bit unreliable/unpredictable (and it will also come with tracking added-on).
The same as before, if there are any issues with your order, get in touch with me and I’ll sort it out straight away. Things very rarely go wrong, and if they do, they always get resolved, no matter which postage rate you opt for.
My old policy on larger orders still applies: for an order with a value over £100 choose the cheapest second class option at checkout, and I will then pay the extra and send it First Class Signed For. And if it’s over £150 I will use Special Delivery (it costs over £17, but has really good insurance, and is guaranteed next day delivery before 1pm).
