Dead And Gone – “TV Baby” LP
Iron Lung Records have just repressed the third album (The Beautician, from 2002) by this Oakland/East Bay hardcore band, which sent me down a time hole recalling their debut album from 1995. A high-tension mix of Born Against, Econochrist, early Neurosis, tinged with a little Jesus Lizard noise rock. I remember catching them live (playing on the same bill as Los Crudos) and they were pretty formidable, and dead tight. No surprise, when you take into account the presence of Brian Stern who since Talk Is Poison has been in countless incredible bands (currently residing in Planet On A Chain), joined, as he was in Dead And Gone, by other East Bay personalities from past/future bands such as Blatz, Filth, Some Girls, Creeps On Candy (etc.). Amazingly, I ended-up this journey of re-discovery by finding that my friends at Ebullition Records still stocked copies of the original debut album, TV Baby, (and not far off the same 90’s price too!). Even more incredible when you consider that this was the first release for Prank Records. You might want to check this out before you spend-out on the new iron Lung reissue.
