Nuzzle – “No Love Like That: Stanford Sessions, 1997” LP
A trio born out of the early 90’s West Coast culture that anchored around labels likeĀ Kill Rock Stars Records in Olympia and Gravity Records in San Diego. Before they broke up at the end of 90s these Californians had released several 45s, their Follow, For Now LP on Youth Strike Chord, several compilation tracks, and their 1999 record, San Lorenzo’s Blues, on the excellent Troubleman Unlimited label. They toured with Fisticuffs Bluff, playing on bills with bands like Evergreen, Unwound, Lync, Bikini Kill, Modest Mouse, The VSS, Clikatat Ikatowi, and more. Less manic than maybe to be expected, (as this is in the slower vein of Boys Life, Sunny Day Real Estate), these tracks were recorded at Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) in two days, May 1997, acting as a demo/precursor for the Troubleman album of ’99. It was originally recorded for Sub Pop offshoot Die Young Stay Pretty Records. For whatever reason it remained in situ until being transferred from tape and mastered in 2022. Oh boy, I wish I had bought and kept those Nuzzle records first time round, heavy love for this…
