NATION OF ULYSSES – “Plays Pretty For Baby” LP

Nation of Ulysses – “Plays Pretty For Baby” LP

The second Ulysses full-length record, released in 1992; re-cut and re-issued in September 2009. Noisy and manic, with a – whoah, watch your backs –  free-jazz influence; self-described as “seriously unserious, reverently irreverent, amoral moralists…. a relentlessly provocative (and entertaining) jumble of teenage rock ‘n’ roll rebellion, leftist radicalism, anarchist punk polemics, and abstract intellectual rambling…”  New 2021 pressing on clear vinyl, (already out of press).

LAS MORDIDAS – “Surrounded” 7″

Las Mordidas – “Surrounded” 7″

A short-lived project from 1993 that featured an impressive line-up including: Jon K (ex-Rain, Special K), Dug Bird (ex-Beefeater), Chris Thompson (ex-Circus Lupus, Ignition, Monorchid), and Jerry Busher (ex-Fidelity Jones, Fugazi). The band only released this one single, and it has been out of print for many years but the Dischord crew recently came upon a stash while cleaning out their warehouse (you can only speculate and drool wondering what else could be lost and found in a Dischord warehouse!).

SOULSIDE – “This Ship” 7″

Soulside – “This Ship” 7″

The first new music from Soulside since their third full-length back in 1989. These tracks were recorded at Jamor Studio in Prague during a brief run of European shows in the autumn of 2019. The 7″ contains 2 songs, but comes with a download for a third. All these decades later, instantly recognisable as Soulside, maybe less hardcore (think Girls Against Boys), but with Bobby Sullivan’s distinct vocals and lyrical subject matter much the same as before, backed by that same guitar-rhythm fusion that made Hot Bodi-Gram such a post hardcore classic.

Various – “Flex Your Head” LP

Various – “Flex Your Head” LP

Dischord’s sampler album featuring early hardcore punk bands from the Washington, D.C. area around the years 1980 to 1982. Taking its title from the Minor Threat lyric shouted in their cover version of Wire’s “12XU”, Flex Your Head served as either a debut or sophomore release for every band on it (except Minor Threat – this was their third appearance on vinyl), most of whom had already split up by the time of the album’s release (The Teen Idles, S.O.A. The Untouchables, Youth Brigade, Red C, Deadline and Artificial Peace) leaving just Iron Cross, Void and Governement Issue as the sole survivors. Oh, and Minor Threat , too, once they had reformed. This remastered version on 2010 features the D.C. ‘stars and bars’ flag on the sleeve.

RED HARE – “Nites Of Midnite” LP

Red Hare – “Nites Of Midnite” LP

Their eight-song debut, released in 2013 as a collaboration between Dischord and Hellfire Records. Red Hare is Shawn Brown, Jason Farrell, and Dave Eight – all formerly of Swiz and Sweetbelly Freakdown – and drummer Joe Gorelick (Garden Variety, Bluetip, Retisonic).

LUNGFISH – “A.C.R. 1999 ” LP

Lungfish – “A.C.R. 1999 ” LP

These 10 songs were recorded and mixed by Craig Bowen at Baltimore’s A.C.R. Studios, but never released. After the session, the band decided to continue writing new songs. Six of these songs were re-recorded at Inner Eat Studios and released on Necrophones, while four others remained unreleased, until now. Released in 2012.

LUNGFISH – “Sound In Time” LP

Lungfish – “Sound In Time” LP

Lungfish’s fourth full-length LP, released in 1996 on Dischord Records. Could any other band be as consistent and reliable? Sublime…. (not the band, Sublime, obviously….)
2022 repress on metallic gold vinyl.

LUNGFISH – “Pass And Stow” LP

Lungfish – “Pass And Stow” LP

American post-hardcore band founded in 1987 in Baltimore, Maryland. Pass and Stow is their third full-length LP, released by Dischord in 1994. It’s never to late in the day to explore the albums of Lungfish, for they all still sound amazing and completely timeless. A unique, and very special band.

LUNGFISH – “Rainbows From Atoms” LP

Lungfish – “Rainbows From Atoms” LP

A remastered reissue of the long out-of-print second LP by Baltimore’s enigmatic high priests of shamanic post hardcore. Hypnotic,  heady and poetic. Originally released by Dischord in 1993.

FUGAZI – “Instrument” LP

Fugazi – “Instrument” LP

The original soundtrack music from the film of the same name, with tracks culled from demos and various sources from the years 1988-1998 (primarily instrumental and unreleased songs). Released in 1999 to coincide with the release of Jem Cohen’s lo-fi documentary film, the album version of  Instrument explores the more experimental and ambient side of Fugazi, drifting into post-hardcore art rock and providing – at the time – a welcome bridge, and breathing space, in between End Hits and The Argument. An odd-ball Fugazi album, but not without pleasant surprises, not least the track I’m So Tired, a piano ballad gently sung by MacKaye.
