Wolves Of Greece – “2000-2004” LP
A compilation of unreleased recordings by this Nottingham band that were active during the first years of the 2000s. Primarily a continuation of Bob Tilton, (featuring both their vocalist and guitarist) and joined by members of Lords and Reynolds; plus extraordinary drummer Steve Charlesworth of Heresy, X-Rays, and now Blind Eye. The eight tracks from side one are taken from a live a set that was broadcast on the John Peel Show in 2002. Side two contains tracks recorded in 2003 for an unreleased 7″ (plus two more practise recordings from 2004). A slight step back in time, Wolves Of Greece were like a celebration of the records released by Gravity in the 1990s – primarily Heroin, Antioch Arrow and Clikiaat Ikatowi – with an added contemporary element of the complex screamo that at the time I associated with Level Plane Records (Hot Cross, Neil Perry etc.); all combined with an experimentalism that was straight out of the US Maple book of self-sabotage.
