Illiterates – “No Experts” LP
The second album by the Pittsburgh band who self-describe themselves as the “dumbest band in hardcore.” Is it false modesty? Yeah… partially… A follow-up to the self-titled debut of 2021, with even faster and shorter songs – eleven songs in as many minutes – about as straightforward as hardcore can get, but delivered with a knowing suss and a good ear for tuneful hook. Sorry State make a mention of Youth Of Today “at their most primal”, which is definitely evident in the rabid howl of the vocalist, complete with catchy group shouts. Puts me in mind of Nerve Agents for the same reason.
