Broken Prayer – “Misanthropocentric A.K.A. Droid’s Blood” LP
The second album from Chicago’s Broken Prayer. Quite an old release now (2105) – not proper old, just old in the sense of slipped-off of the modern mindset, and left behind in the rush for what’s new in the 2020s. Whirlwind blasts of frenetic hardcore noise, with a melodic undercurrent sneaking-up on you via hooky synth lines and the occasional anthemic chorus. Rounded-off by some of the sharpest, most incisively biting lyrics of any band in decades (“How could god let this happen to white children?”); lyrics that are hand-written in a zine-style booklet, to boot. I don’t want an overlooked classic to remain in obscurity, this one deserves both a wider audience and some further appreciation. A warm hug with a back-pat, too.
