Soma – “If You See Me... (Let Me Be)” 12″ EP
Three quarters of Falmouth’s Crows An Wra joined by a member of Goodtime Boys/We Came Out Like Tigers. Their debut 12″ of eight tracks, keeping alive the UK skramz with a hectic rush off-kilter intensity. Vocals are screamed in a similar style to Statefaults; the manic clean guitars twist and turn in unexpected ways (with a strong undercurrent of bright melody), and that brings (to my mind) bands that Soma’s guitarist, Mikee, introduced me to, some years ago: DaitroLa, Quiete, Raein, Ampere. And going back even further in time, on one song I caught an echo of JR Ewing – and I’m grateful for the reminder, a great band. Everything is further solidified into one united front, despite the weird, almost jazz-like timing, which could have easily tipped the whole cartload into brain melting chaos, by some outrageously good drumming. Dude’s got the beats. This 12″ is a charmer
