Smarts – “Who Needs Smarts, Anyway?” LP
A relatively new Australian band (this came out in 2020) who combine frantic, rapidly-paced rhythms and playful riffs and melodies that immediately bring to mind Liquids, the Coneheads and Alien Noise Job. “Points of reference could be compared to the quirkiness of LA’s Suburban Lawns or Geza X, as well as citing influence from modern sounds like Japanese band Vodovo and the ever-evolving Midwest American punk scene.” Who Needs Smarts, Anyway? is their debut album, recorded by the band themselves over a weekend at the DIY studio setup, The Barracks, with finishing coats added in Melbourne.
