The Get Up Kids – “Something To Write Home About: 25th Anniversary Edition” Double LP
Hardcore kids from the mid-nineties who took healthy-sized measures of indie rock, emo and pop punk, and then became relatively successful. Twenty five years later, their second album still exudes a scrappy, youthful, energy. But, it is still dependent upon your tolerance threshold when it comes to cute guy sings about relationships (and not many people would dis the Buzzcocks for their similar raison d’être). D’em tunes is good, though. And those keyboard hooks are still weirdly addictive. Credit where it’s due, back in the day, a lot of hardcore kids owned copies of the first two albums, and didn’t hide it (I should know, I sold a lot of copies). Remastered from the original tapes and paired with a slew of bonus material, including rare demo versions of multiple songs from the album as well as never-before-released rarities from the era.
