Escuela Grind – “Memory Theater” LP
Second album from this excellent grindcore trio, relocated to Massachusetts from New York (the first album Indoctrination was released by Armageddon in 2020). With what appears to be an ever-rotating line-up of bass-players and second guitarists, but keeping the fantastic vocals of Katerina Economou as the consistent centrepiece, around which the insane blastbeats and manic riffing all swirl in a spin-out whirlwind. Twenty One minutes of 2023 grindcore, that leans a little more towards the death metal than it does the hardcore (otherwise, I guess we’d be calling it power-violence), delivered with a freshness and (un)healthy vitality. Helped along by the knowing studio skills of Kurt Ballou.
