Description

Engine Kid – “Angel Wings / Special Olympics” Double LP and 7″

Some years after the demise of Seattle youth crew band Brotherhood, Greg Anderson (later of Sunn O))), Goatsnake, Southern Lord etc.) like many other folk in them days, took inspiration from Slint’s masterpiece, Spiderland, and then formed the dynamic-heavy power trio Engine Kid. The initial records on C/Z were capable, if not remarkable, variations on the jazz-inflected post-rock/noise rock of the day. But then in 1994 Engine Kid joined Revelation Records, took on board some Melvins/Sleep/Neurosis influences, and then got very, very HEAVY. The dramatic tension of Spiderland taken up (or down?) to a whole new level. The double album, Angel Wings, was the primary end result of this genius reinvention, and this limited edition repress is packaged within a Stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket, remastered by Brad Boatright from the original tapes. It also includes a previously unreleased track from the original Angel Wings sessions as well as a bonus Special Olympics 7″ vinyl featuring four new recordings from 2021.
