Elliott – “False Cathedrals” LP
After year and a half of touring and song-writing since the release of the debut full-length, U.S. Songs, released by Rev in 1998, the Kentucky band found themselves in Los Angeles recording the follow-up, False Cathedrals. Abandoning almost completely any traces of their hardcore roots, they created an indie-rock album that full of epic drama and ambitious grandeur. Not unlike the direction Sense Field took after their hardcore years as Reason To Believe. Ok, so it didn’t generate the same level of love that was felt for U.S. Songs, however, this is still a solid album, one that I have comfortably returned to many times over the decades. It’s also worth mentioning that Kevin Ratterman is an amazingly good drummer. New pressing now available again in 2022.
