The fourth album by the experimental math rock quartet from the Baltimore area of America. Still wild and unpredictable – with the guitarist generating even more mad sounds from god-knows-what effects peddles, and with rhythms that are up there with Battles for sheer off-kilter awkwardness – it all comes as a contrast to the previous album, Lifer, which is a comparatively accessible recording of thoughtfully written songs. Kunk is far more violent, abrasive, and uneasy. Born from improvised jams, it manages to sound loser, and, somehow, more technical and complex, too.
