Alkaline Trio – self-titled LP
A collection of their earliest recordings, reissued by Asian Man once again. The original line-up, with Rob Doran on bass and Glenn Porter of 88 Fingers Louie on drums remains by far my favourite version of Alkaline Trio, as documented on this LP by the Sundials 7″ and track “97” from a compilation on Johanns Face Records (I once heard these tracks were recorded when they were secretly snuck into Steve Albini’s studio by a friend/intern – which I hope is true). The early recordings by the second line up, with Dan Andriano on bass (fresh out of Tuesday and Slapstick) is also pretty fabulous too, and is represented here by the classic For Your Lungs Only 7″ (on Asian Man 1998), and Lied My Face Off 7″ (from 1999), plus a couple of compilation tracks. This is the thirteenth vinyl pressing (since it’s original release on CD format in 2000), and is a limited hand-numbered variant for 1-2-3-4–Go! Records.
