Planet Gong – “Live Floating Anarchy 1977” LP
A short lived project from 1977 in possession of a long-lasting legacy. A fantastic example of the space rock genre, pumped up on some proto punk energy. Planet Gong, was formed by Daevid Allen (of 70’s experimental proggers Gong) and Gilli Smyth and the band Here & Now. Any punk casualty stumbling around during the 80’s anarcho wars would have owned at least a dubbed copy of this album (with Masters Of The Universe on the reverse side). Recorded live in Toulouse (I always thought it sounded way too good to be live in front of a real gig-going audience… I guess, truth of the matter, this is what trained musicians, who practise and stuff, can actually sound like playing live), apart from the track “Opium for the People” which definitely was a studio recording.
