Syndrome 81 – “Prisons Imaginaires” LP
Straight forward punk rock that is melodic, anthemic and passionate. “Syndrome 81 describes the spleen of everyday life and the boredom of life in Brest, far from everything, like no other.” Often compared to second generation punk (as the ’81 in the band name implies), in actual fact these French punks also bring to my mind elements of Snuff, Dillinger Four, Manifesto Jukebox and (a name from the distant past) Toxik Ephex. Bouncy and very catchy, and with a thick vein of serious-minded, post-punk darkness running through the heart of it. No disrespect to The Chisel but this is a reminder that they are the late arrivals to an event that thanks to Syndrome 81 was already in full swing.
