Howling Windl – “Vortex” LP
A black metal band/project that was made up of Ryan Lipynsky (Unearthly Trance, Serpentine Path and Humanlessand) and Tim Call (Aldebaran, Mournful Congregation and Nightfell). Based in Brooklyn, New York and Portland, Oregon, and inluenced by a broader range of tastes compared to your typical black metal misfits – alongside Darkthone/Wolves In The Throneroom are traces of heavy, dark punk (in a Neurosis/Tragedy/Antisect kind of a way). Overall, Howling Wind live up to both their name and the album’s title in that devastating elemental chaos prevails from start to finish. This was their (2013) fourth album, preceeded by three albums on Profound Lore. One of my all-time favourite back metal albums, and so t’was high-time I got some in.
