Moving Targets – “Burning In Water” LP
Mid-80’s America, you had Zen Arcade, you had Skag Heaven, and you had Burning In Water. Boston’s Moving Targets were united with Husker Du and Squirrel Bait in developing a new aesthetic in hardcore punk, where new levels of musicianship and songwriting became asĀ important as energy and attitude. Moving Targets were distinctly Boston sounding – borrowing the sonic themes of Mision Of Burma, and adding hardcore velocity with a truck-load of well-crafted melody – thereby laying-down the path for The Lemonheads and Buffalo Tom to follow. This debut full-length, released by Taang! in 1986 features the original line-up of guitarist/singer Kenny Chambers backed by one of the greatest rhythm sections ever – Pat Leonard with his fluid, ultra-complex basslines; and drummer extraordinaire, Pat Brady, whose thunderous power and calculated precision remains unsurpassed to this day. One of the best, ever.
