Mastermind – “Bad Reaction” 7″
A new addition to the stables of the consistently great Quality Control HQ label, and it’s a bitey little fella: a young four piece from London who are heavily steeped in the essence of ’80s NYHC. Think: early SOIA, Breakdown, Killing Time, Rest In Pieces, Inside Out (NY). A modern day interpretation delivered with shitloads of punchy deftness that can twist in and out of a brief rock-out moment (reminiscent of Face Value) faster than the time taken to notice it. It might be sacrilegeous to say this, but sounds to me like they’re smashing it better than those aformentioned influences.
