Joy Division – “Transmission” 12″ EP
From a period in time when it was de rigueur for leftfield indie outfits to have really morally dubious band names. At least it wasn’t as fucked-up as calling yourself Spandau Ballet… but Joy Division is pretty close. However, students of music, wanting to figure-out exactly what this ‘post-punk’ tag actually sounds like – this is a very good place to start. Re-recorded in 1999 (at a faster tempo than the previous year’s version) and ‘released by Factory as the band’s debut single’ – although surely, master Wikipedia, the debut single was the Hitler Youth themed 7″ EP, An Ideal For Living?
