Jeff Rosenstock – “Hellmode” LP
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DIY punk veteran, Mr Rosenstock recorded his fifth album, Hell Mode, in 2022 with the expert help of Jack Shirley in Oakland, California. Despite the title, this an album that steps away from some of the bittersweet pathos of older albums, while retaining the life-affirming, rowdy exuberance and climactic group shout choruses that have become the Rosentock trademarks. The man is a master-crafter of songs that incorporate anthemic pop-punk hooks with a lyrical depth and meaning that outdoes any other singer-songwriter of any other pop rock genre. Something like the best moments of NOFX placed on on the opposite end of the intelligence spectrum, next to jawbreaker.
