Harms Way – “Common Suffering” LP
The second album for Metal Blade Records provided by the Chicago band, who continue the progression from their power-violence/hardcore origin, retaining the down-tuned, heavyweight angst and aggression, but also increasing industrial and experimental additives. A positive end result, reminiscent at different times of both Godflesh and King Woman; while throughout the ten tracks, another old band of yesteryear, Coalesce constantly comes to mind. Like Coalesce had come back from the dead, armed with new ideas, and slightly less obsessed with sounding like a band playing backwards. Harms Way are often twisted and technical, for sure, just not that twisted and technical.
