Godflesh “Purge” LP
A new album for 2023. Their first new material in six years, still doing what Godflesh have always done, still sounding exactly like Godlesh: Two men and a machine, Hellraiser/Pinhead vocals, JJ Burnel’s bass sound, obscene levels of feedback and distortion, and lots of industrial strength heaviness (over-shadowed, as always, by the presence of Head Of David). The beats are less 80’s Big Black, and more 90’s hip-hop, which is a cool stylistic shift; while an intentional step back has also taken place, re-exploring themes and sonic ideas from the 1991 album, Pure.
