Bristol’s Gimic are back with three new songs to further cement them firmly into place as one of the most exciting and innovative bands rising up in the UK right now. A clever-as-fuck mix of something very 2024-fresh that is also taking some choice picks from times past. There’s a danceable groove that echoes Fugazi (backed by Mike Watt-esque basslines), and there’s guitar tone that at times reminds me of At The Drive In. Mathy time signatures, all fired-up with an energy and attitude that could almost tip things into screamo territory. I don’t think anyone that is already aware of this band will have any doubts about the significance of this EP. For anyone who has yet to catch on, be assured there is no hype, and there’s no need for hyperbolicking – this is one the best UK bands we’ve had in a fair few years.
