Flower – “Hardly A Dream” LP

The debut vinyl release for these New York punks with their sights set with absolute precision upon the greats of old school, anarcho punk (of the metallic variety). And hitting the target spot on. The fold out poster sleeve is resplendent with pen and ink artwork, heavily in the style of Nick Blinko, (drawn by the guitarist Willow, obviously a huge fan of Death Church). True to their hometown of New York, there is no avoiding the Nasuea comparison, especially in regards to the chosen vocal style. Some moments also remind me of Disaffect. But most of all, with the heavily-overdriven guitars (making the right choices when it comes to effects pedals), I’m hearing a very strong mid-80’s UK influence, specifically the Midland’s metallic punk of Antisect and Sacrilege. I hear that members of Flower were previously in a Sacrilege covers band. Figures.
