Farside – “Rigged” LP and Booklet
The Southern Californian band’s triumphant sophomore release, originally released in 1994 and the first with their new member Kevin Murphy, who would share not only guitar and songwriting duties, but also share vocals with Michael “Popeye” Vogelsang – a creative alliance that paid off huge dividends. Rochambeau was their debut full-length from two years previously, and in terms of styles and sounds it was an landmark record that featured one or two really strong songs. With Rigged things were taken-up to another level – a perfect marriage of the then exploding emo scene, (with lyrics taken direct from the Rites Of Spring, ‘my intense, crazy life has seriously fallen apart’, song book) combined with the traditional melodic hardcore of Husker Du and Dag Nasty. And for this album, all the songs were really strong (“Silver Anniversary” must be my all time favourite song of 1994, surely?).
This is the 30th anniversary of this release. A new pressing on limited mint green vinyl, and including a 16-page booklet with previously unreleased images and text narrative by Kevin Murphy.
