Doldrey – “Celestial Deconstruction” LP
A punked-up death metal band from Singapore with their first full-length, following-on from the Invocation Of Doom mini LP of 2019. When Iron Lung Records does death metal you can be confident that it will not be your typical Century Media, Peaceville, (or even) Relapse type affair – it’s going to be a little more nuanced and a little less obvious, right? Indeed. Gnarly, lo-fi production values, soaked in filth and grime (but not gore) with a burnt layer of crust. An odorous stench that emanates outwards from the speakers intertwined with the waves of subterranean sounds – this hits exactly the right spot for anyone who seeks the heavy grind of the genre, with punk aggression and attitude executed with tight precision, but without the burden of over-egged heavy metal tropes.
