Dog Date – “Zinger” LP
New York punks follow-up their Child’s Play LP of 2012 with eleven tracks of ampheta-mean-fuelled mayhem that is powered by two guitars, one bass, and not one, but two drummers. As with anything released on this label (run by members of Turnstile, Angel Du$t, Trapped Under Ice, etc.) it is an exciting release, one that defies easy categorization, both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Zinger is a technicolor blast of unrestrained energy, captured live (with minimal overdubs) at Hyperballad Studios by engineers Matt Labozza and Morgan Miller, resulting in a lean set of furious yet welcoming songs that bring all the members’ collective strengths to bear.
