Butthole Surfers – “Psychic, Powerless… Another Man’s Sac” LP
The first album by the Texan pyscho-delic punks. It followed up the Brown Reason to Live EP that was released by Alternative Tentacles the year before in 1983. For whatever reason A.T. were unable to get this LP out quick enough, and, with the large studio bill desperately needing to be paid, it was picked-up by Touch And Go, instead. The first Butthole Surfers recording to feature their infamous dual drumming; further enhanced with extensive tape editing, bizarre experimental sounds, and non-traditional instrumentation. Like any Butthole’s record, there’s plenty of wild, indulgent madness to test and challenge your tolerance; but, more so than any other album, Psychic, Powerless has an above average selection of punky, alternative-rock gems – like “Dum Dum”, “Negro Observer” and “Mexican Carivan” – that count as some of their all-time finest moments.
