Bossk – “4.” Double LP
Active since 2005, the UK’s most prominent purveyors of post metal and post rock. Chuck in a post hardcore too, if you really want to hammer-in the posts. This ambitious double 12″ is not is not a Bossk album in the conventional sense, instead, it is the latest in a series of numbered releases that presents material outside of the band’s more typical remit – acting as a kind of side-project before their third ‘proper’ album, to be released sometime in 2025. Forging a more experimental path by presenting re-worked/re-recorded versions of some old favourites. Further assisted and reinvented by various collaborations: Manchester-based post metal project Pijn; Japanese experimentalists Endon: instrumental quintet Maybeshewill ; Canadian prog-psych duo Crown Lands. The end result, for me, hits a sweet spot more so than the previous Bossk records, being broader in scope and less confined to the limitations of the typical ‘post-metal’ tropes.
