Beach Rats – “Rat Beat” LP
The New Jersey hardcore band that features an impressive line-up of punk rock lifers – vocalist Ari Katz (Lifetime), Danny Windas (Let It Burn) on drums, guitarist Brian Baker (Bad Religion, Dag Nasty, Minor Threat), along with guitarist Pete Steinkopf and bassist Bryan Keinlen both from Bouncing Souls. Twelve songs in 22 minutes, heavily reverential towards classic 80’s skate punk, and thankfully, delivered with plenty of rough edged grit and kick-bottom energy. Not the over-produced, by-numbers guff that you might dread from a gang of old-timers on Epitaph. The presence of Lifetime is especially acute, and Lifetime, let’s not forget, were a fabaroonie band.
