Against All Authority – “24 Hour Roadside Resistance” LP
The third album by this Florida ska-punk band is now available on vinyl for the first time since the original release in 2000. One of many acts that I avoided back in the day, (which, on reflection, is fair enough as I probably wasn’t the target audience), but I think it can be interesting to explore an album that I once would have judged harshly and see how it stands up decades later, freed form context and negative associations (remember, Offspring did a fair bit of harm)… This AAA album slots into a NOFX, Propagandhi, Less Than Jake and Dillinger Four category with ease. Thankfully, minimal ska-irritation and instead, genuine outspoken and sharp-witted politicised lyrics with tight musicianship combined with a rough edged smokiness. Reminds me of early Lookout! releases, many of which I still rate highly, so, no complaints here. Oh, except, the horns can fuck off.
