Description

“Cease And Resist: Sonic Subversion & Anarcho Punk In The UK 1979-86” Double LP

A fantastic best-of selection culled from the UK’s anarcho-punk movement of the early to mid 1980s. Featuring “some of the most radical music ever made” (true dat), all wisely chosen, beginning with Zound’s “Can’t Cheat Karma”, moving on to Honey Bane’s “Girl On The Run”, and then “Bloody Revolutions”, “Nue Smell”, “Rub Me Out” etc. etc. Ideal for anyone who wants to re-live that portal moment when they were a handed a mix-tape in the school classroom; and also for anyone who wants to experience it for the first time – you’re going to be pleasantly surprised to discover how tub-thumping Chumbawumba started out. Further interest comes in the form of previously unreleased versions of the Apostle’s “Mob Violence” and The Mob’s “No Doves Fly Here”. And hats-off for the smartest selection of all: D and V’sConscious (Pilot)”. A superb, criminally-overlooked song, kind of proto hip-hop a la Big Audio Dynamite, (but loads better) and that serves as a prime example of the interesting places the anarcho sound was travelling towards as the decade waded through the mire of adversity that was Thatcherite Britain.
Front and back sleeve art is by Gee Vaucher. It also comes with a 6 page fold out poster  – one side with detailed sleeve notes, recollections and essays on the other side. Expensive, but all profits will be donated to Faslane Peace Camp and the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
