Rolo Tomassi – “Grievances” LP
One of the UK’s heroic-best from the past decade of underground music. Rolo Tomassi could be a huge indie rock band, especially considering the uber-talents of their vocalist, Eva Spence (the guys on instruments ain’t exactly shy of a skill or two, either) – instead, bless them, they have always stubbornly stuck to an outsider status of sonic extremism. From the start they were too damn Japanese for the UK music mainstream – by which I mean, too Melt Banana. Too Envy. Many moons ago, on the same day they finshed their school exams, they travelled all the way from Sheffield to play a pub in Dorset. True story. Ever since, I’ve always thought of them as an exceptional band, deserving of great things… This is their fourth album, and it was released in 2015.
