Major Conflict – self-titled 7″
Released on Silent Scream Records in 1983, repressed and rescued from collectors’ obscurity by Spain’s Antitodo Records in 2017. Reverby vocals, circle-pit drum beats, overdriven distortion one guitar strum away from screaming feedback – this is fantastic first generation New York hardcore – hard to believe they weren’t on ROIR’s New York Thrash comp – providing a link from the early bands like Kraut and the Stimulators to the youngsters of Murphys Law, Token Entry, Crippled Youth etc. You can imagine them sharing the CBGBs stage with Reagan Youth, Cause For Alarm, Bad Brains and the Beastie Boys. Gotta’ be said, it’s really refreshing to hear this style of NYHC without the cheesey standing-strong-stabbed-in-the-back lyrics of the youth-crew generation. The older the better?
