Description

Jerry A and the Neo Girls / Norman Silver and the Gold – “Hammer Song / Spectre At The Feast” 7″ & Punk Shocker #12 zine

Becoming more and more prolific in his old age, on this occasion Jerry A has teamed-up with local musicians (including members of Poison Idea and Dead Conspiracy) to perform a rendition of an old song by the Sensational Harvey Band. It starts off,, to my ears, sounding like a slower paced song by 60’s legends, Love (probs due to the guitar tone more than anything), and then picks-up the pace into grungy, hard rock territory. It’s pretty great (if a Alex Harvey cover by members of Poison Idea in the style of Love hasn’t got you curious, then, you and I are not operating within the same musical hemisphere). But better still is the track on the flip side: Norman Silver and the Gold contain members of classic Scottish punk bands (too obvious to even mention), and their track is an impossible to define howl of post rock invention, (perhaps) Americana influenced, who knows? Like I say, it’s both the highlight of this split release, and also respectfully difficult to classify. Released in Europe by Andy Shocker, who once did Punk Shocker fanzine, which he has revived and the latest issue, (albeit in a brief format), is included with this limited 7″ (that also includes a nifty postcard of Jerry A breathing fire!).
