Hüsker Dü – “Zen Arcade” Double LP
In 1983 Hüsker Dü entered Total Access studio in Redondo Beach, California, with SST producer Spot, to record their third album. They recorded 25 tracks, with all but two songs being first takes, with the whole session, including mixing, taking 85 hours. Credited as being one of the greatest underground albums of the 1980s. I’d confidently go a couple of steps further and declare Zen Arcade to be one of the greatest album of all time, and across all genres of music. Students of music who want to understand the origins of emo should start right here.
