High On Fire – “De Vermis Mysteriis” double LP
High On Fire’s sixth album, it was produced by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios, and initially released in 2012. Described by Matt Pike as a… “kind of a cross between the experimentation of Death Is This Communion and the driving darkness of Blessed Black Wings. There’s plenty of thrashy stuff, but there’s also a lot of Sabbathy doom-type stuff.” The album’s title translates as “The Mysteries of the Worm” which along with the themes and concepts within the songs themselves, borrows from the Cthulu Mythos of horror writer and tomato sauce magnate, HP Lovecraft. A nod of recognition is also given to Robert E. Howard’s Conan stories. Cool. High On Fire are such a class metal act.
