Gris De Lin – “Sprung” LP
Debut album from a rising West Country talent – lush leftfield indie-pop that dips playfully into a few different flavours of post rock, electro experimentation and bluesy heaviness. Because of the locality I could be lazy and make a P J Harvey reference, and in all fairness, there are some similarities, primarily in some of the guitar riffs, (oh, and Harvey’s drummer Rob Ellis does play on some tracks) but really, somewhere between Speedy Ortiz, Chelsea Wolfe and Angel Olsen would be a more accurate comparison. The line up also features a member of Second Smile on guitar, which adds an Oceansize, Explosions In The Sky vibe. Overall, a fucking great recording that has scored plenty of plaudits in mainland Europe, but that is still relatively unknown in the UK.
