Funkadelic – self-titled LP

The debut album by George Clinton’s psychedelic funk group: initially a side group to The Parliaments, but becoming a full-blown band in their own right by the time of their relocation to Detroit in the late sixties (along with the addition Eddie Hazel – the only guitarist to be a match for Jimi Hendrix, ever). This first album contains the heavy, guitar-driven, spaced-out, acid rock for which they later became known; while still allowing their blues and soul roots to occasionally show through, quite close to what Sly and the Family Stone were achieving at the same point in time. The opening line: If you will suck my soul, I will lick your funky emotions… goes half way half-way in letting you know what’s coming…
