Fairytale – “Shooting Star” LP
These New York punks burn bright and colourful on their debut album. Ten tracks of buzzsaw crasher riffs, with Lulu’s urgent vocals cutting though the overdriven noise with satisfying precision. The sung moments, where she hits a few notes, as she often does, really helps make this something strikingly original, and special. Like a version of Lebenden Toten, (but with a vocal style that, I have to say, I much prefer), backed by a similar, at times psyche-hypnotic, wall of distorto-noise. More than enough to cause an innocent sound engineer to fall into a violent seizure, I would hope. Touring the UK very bloody soon, I tell you.
