Crows-An-Wra – “Kalopsia” LP
The Falmouth based four-piece released their first full-length album in 2014, a year after their self-titled 10″ debut. It’s such a shame they didn’t stick around for longer, as they were one of the more exciting UK bands from that period of time. Formed by members of Ravachol, Kasa and Crocus (amongst others), they were screamo in a kind of Touche Amore style of screamo i.e. tempered with a calmness in amongst the intensity; and then progressive in a kind of Mars Volta style. Jerky, quirky, jazzy, with occasional crescendos of sublime musical release in amongst all the chaos – but a form of chaos that stays on the melodic bright side, rather than being harsh, discordant and abrasive. And phwoar, those sublime moments ain’t ‘alf good.
