Description

Comus – “First Utterance” LP

A neo-folk classic from 1971. Slightly psychedelic, a little progressive, very dark, and, despite featuring acoustic-only instruments, impressively heavy – as in, heavy-metal heavy; and as in, whoah, heav-vee, man – with songs dealing in themes such as necrophilia, rape, and shock therapy.  Their debut album was originally released by Dawn Records, becoming one of those holy-grail collectible records, ever since. It was officially repressed in 2010 by Rise Above Records , who fully appreciated its cult-like significance and esoteric charm. This version is amore recent press by Music On Vinyl, and thankfully recreates the magnificence of the splendidly warped pen and ink artwork upon the front cover of the gatefold sleeve (drawn by lead singer/song-writer, Roger Wootton).
