Big Mess – “Cleaning Up With” LP
The fourth full-length from this Copenhagen punk rock/power pop band. The punchy energy and infectious hooks immediately remind me of the recent London sound of Chisel and Chubby And The Gang… but (thankfully) those old school Oi! tendencies have been replaced here by old school garage punk instead. And garage punk these days always puts me in mind of Australia – and so I would (optimistically) expect to catch Big Mess playing on the same bill as Civic or Stiff Richards, (or Royal Headache if they were still going. Or Jay Reatard. If he was still going. And Australian, not American). Either way, this is rollicking, tune-based, power-pop by way of hardcore punk, so expect the energy and sound levels to peak high, like early Wire with extra adrenalin and urgency.
