Big Black – “Atomizer” LP
After a run of 7″ EPs came the debut full-length, released in 1987 on Touch And Go Records. To quote a youtube commentator: “My neighbors liked this album so much they threw a brick thru my window so they could hear it better”. Ten tracks that are visceral and taught, like razor wire, constantly driven forward by the Rolland machine-beats and lumberjack basslines, all the while wrapped in caustic sheets of metallic white noise – it’s an extraordinary album. “Stare at the wall, Stare at each other and wait ’til we die.” Dark, horrifying, but weirdly electrifying at the same time.
