Bauhaus – “The Sky’s Gone Out” LP
The third studio album, released by Beggars Banquet in 1982. Heading in new directions, away from their post-punk origins, more towards the grandiose romanticism shared by Echo And The Bunnymen; while retaining the dark, foreboding tension of pre-armageddon early 80s Britain – at this point in time Bauhaus were still more closely aligned to Killing Joke, PIL and UK Decay than anyone else (i.e. no Sisters Of Mercy, Mission, and all that other goth gash). The Sky’s Gone Out is still uncommercial in its intention – bleak, experimental and, in places, completely bonkers. And also featuring their rip-roaring cover of Brian Eno’s Third Uncle.
