Baroness – “Stone” LP
The progressive rock and sludge metal band from Savannah, Georgia, return with their sixth album (or seventh if you consider First and Second to be an album in its own right. I know I do). There’s a switch from the colour scheme of previous LPs, is this a new chapter for the band? No, not really, Stone sounds like a direct continuation from where 2019’s Gold and Grey left off – a band stretching themselves into a broader range of styles, and defiantly doing it in their own idiosyncratic way (although, the production on Gold and Grey sounds a tad thin in comparison to this new one. Better mastering, maybe?). Baroness, Mastodon, Elder and Kylesa – these are legacy bands that you can rely upon for serving-up yet another monumental album. You have to stay on board to continue the journey.
