Baroness – “Gold & Grey” Double LP
The fifth studio album by the Savannah, Georgia progressive-melodic-rock heavyweights, released in 2019 on the band’s own label, Abraxan Hymn, and the first recording to feature new guitarist Gina Gleason. As with previous releases, the artwork was designed and penned by front-man John Dyer Baizley. This album gets alot of flack for its dense, unpolished production, and I don’t agree: Baroness, just like sister band Kylesa, are still, roots-and-heart, an unspohisticated punk band, who just happen to write anthemic pop-rock songs. Conventional rock fans might want everything handed to them on an perfect silver platter, but… that would be Foo Fighters yuk. And this, thankfully, is not. It’s Baroness.
