AK-47 – “Badge, Singularities, and More!” LP
The first-ever officially licensed compilation of recordings made by these Houston, Texas art punks of the early 1980s. Ten songs, including both tracks from The Badge Means You Suck single (1980), six songs from the Singularities recording session of 1981 (that remained unreleased), plus two recent songs from the past decade. AK-47 were agitational, weirdo punk, and you can imagine them playing a chaotic set in a small, dark basement venue alongside the Screamers and Negative Trend (and with members of the Big Boys, MDC, Scratch Acid and Butthole Surfers among the audience). The 7″ single, that was their only proper vinyl release, has become notorious due to the bootleg punk series, Killed By Death, and I see copies have sold for up to £700 on Discogs. It is also the primary reason to justify what is essentially yet another new release in a very long line of obscure, who-the-fuck?, reissues, as it is a timeless classic of pent-up frustration and fuck you attitude, delivered with fast paced energy and post punk grit.
